Brian Torr BSc.(Hons), MInstP, CPhys.

Whilst at the University of Surrey Brian received a degree in Physics which included an industrial placement in the Vehicle Safety Department of the Transport and Road Research Laboratory. This was followed by a research project in Robotics in the Mechanical Engineering Department and an appointment as an Experimental Officer in the Radiation Physics Group of the Physics Department specialising in instrumentation and digital electronics.

After ten years at the University Brian joined Direct Digital Control as Senior Applications Engineer providing consultancy and software solutions in the Manufacturing, Food and Biotech Industries.

In 1990 Brian moved to EC Harris, a Cost Consultancy Partnership, initially developing critical path analysis modules and Monte Carlo Risk simulations for project planning and cost control. As part of his Development Manager role: he implemented a “Ticket” based quality system for Agile software development and built a development team in Indonesia. In the nearly 20 years at EC Harris he developed his consultancy role with clients including Government Departments and Local Authorities becoming a Partner in 2001

Using his experience of clients and Facilities Management he moved to Interserve Support Services, a large facilities management company with clients in the Government, Defence, Health and private sector as a Business Solutions Manager providing IT solutions design and sales support at board level.

During his time with Interserve in the UK an opportunity arose to join a joint venture between Interserve and Khansaheb (a long established Emirati Family Construction Company) to develop the Facilities Management Offering in the United Arab Emirates. Brian implemented the IT system for Facilities Management before transferring to the Construction Division as Group Head of IT and Support Services responsible for IT, HR and Facilities Management working closely with the Health, Environment and Quality Departments.

On returning to the UK in 2018 Brian joined QM&T as a Consultant developing the eLearning platform, providing IT support and Website management.
